(i) Describe how Ricky Braithwaite manage to bring about a change in the behaviour of his students.
Answer:
E. R. Braithwaite gets a job of a teacher in a rather mannerless and notorious school. He finds that the students belong to such a background which is not suitable for learning and their overall development. He notices that the students are in no mood to change their attitude and thinking. Braithwaite with his novel and creative ideas, innovative techniques and understanding the students’ psychology, ultimately wins their hearts after some time. Though he was bullied, harassed, mentally and physically tortured many times, he didn’t lose his patience and continued implementing his novel ideas and techniques that helped him to bring a significant change in his students’ lives. The students change their behaviour and significantly present the mannered attitude during the session. This shows that Ricky Braithwaite manages to bring about a change in the behaviour of his students.

(ii) How does Mr. Braithwaite manage to increase the cultural exposure of the class?
Answer:
Mr. Braithwaite gives freedom to his students to arrange the programme. The preparation for a half yearly programme starts well in advance. Students consider it great honour to be perform on the stage in the auditorium. So they plan it properly. There are whispered conferences with members of other classes about the arrangement of the programme. The children arrive smartly. They use good outfit and polished shoes. Miss Joseph and Denham behave as the important officials for the occasion. They move among their colleagues ensuring that each one is ready to play his or her part. During the programme Denham addresses the girls by using the prefix ‘Miss’. He shows mannered behaviour. All the students present good thoughts and humanitarian approach. This show that Mr. Braithwaite successfully manage to increase the cultural exposure of the class.

(i) Describe how Fix, the detective creates problems for Mr. Fogg arresting him for bank robbery and how Mr. Fogg tries to solve the problem.
Answer:
Detective Fix considers Mr. Fogg as bank robber. So he follows him. As soon as Fogg, Aouda and Passepartout arrive in Liverpool, Fix arrests Fogg. Phileas Fogg is thrown in jail. He is really ruined. It is a moment when he is about to attain his end. This arrest is fatal. Having arrived at Liverpool at twenty minutes before twelve on the 21st of December. He must reach the Reform Club a quarter before nine that evening. The journey from Liverpool to London is six hours. So he can reach easily to the Reform Club in time. But his valuable time is lost due to the arrest. He is on the verge to lose the bet.
Several hours later, Fix learns that another man is responsible for the bank robbery. He releases Fogg. Mr. Fogg orders a special train. However, he arrives to London late, making everyone disappointed. But finally due to change in time zone, he gets benefit of one extra day. He reaches to the Reform Club within the scheduled time and wins the bet.

(ii) In what way was Mr. Fogg’s final winning the wager connected with Aouda?
Answer:
Aouda failed in love with Mr. Fog. When she realised that Mr. Fog was not able to win the bet, she became disappointed. She was anxious about the condition of Mr. Fog. She cared him. She was ready to marry him. To complete the proceedings of wedding ceremony, Passepartout went to meet the clergyman. At his place, he got the information of actual date. So he came running and carried Mr. Fog to the Reform club. Mr. Fogg won the bet. In this way Mr. Fogg’s final winning the wager connected with Aouda.

(i) Describe how Sherlock Holmes discovered the connection between Miss Morstan receiving precious pearls with Major Sholto.
Answer:
Mary had come to meet Sherlock Holmes to discuss about her case. Mary’s Father had disappeared and never returned. She came across an advertisement asking for her address which she gave and even since then on the same day each year she received an expensive pearl. When Mary received a letter asking her to come over to a place to unravel a secret associated with her life, Mary approached Holmes. She was certain that he would solve the puzzle.
Holmes went out to do some research for the case. After returning from his investigation, Holmes told Watson that he believed that the death of Major Sholto, Mary’s father’s only friend in London, had something to do with the mysterious pearls she had been receiving every year. Holmes believed that Sholto’s heir knew that Mary had been wronged in some way and decided to rectify the problem. So, he was sending her the pearl every year. In this way, Sherlock Holmes discovered the connection between Miss Morstan receiving precious pearls with Major Sholto.
(ii) How does the mystery of Bartholomew’s murder lead Holmes to track down Small?
Answer:
When Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson and Miss Morstan arrived at the family estate, the three find a shaken housekeeper who claims that Bartholomew has not emerged from his locked room all day. Holmes and Watson peer through the keyhole of the room and find an unnatural grinning face leering at them. Breaking down the door, they find the body of Bartholomew. He is killed by a poisoned dart lodged in his neck. After investigating for some time, Holmes concludes that two persons, one of whom had a wooden leg, committed the crime. According to Holmes, this person may be Jonathan Small as he has one wooden leg. In this way the mystery of Bartholomew’s murder lead Holmes to track down Jonathan Small.
